Every school I visited was running fee collection the same way: a cashier's window, a stack of carbon-copy receipt books, and a line of parents stretching into the compound on the first week of each term. Money came in through telebirr, CBE Birr, a direct deposit at the bank, or plain cash in an envelope, but none of it was connected to the student. The registrar would sit with a bank statement in one hand and a class register in the other, matching names by eye and hoping the amounts lined up. Parents lost their slips and came back to argue, siblings' payments got credited to the wrong record, and by mid-term nobody could say with confidence who still owed what. Directors wanted a single number, how much have we actually collected this term and it took days of manual counting to answer. The tools that existed abroad assumed card payments and clean bank feeds that simply don't map to how Ethiopian schools and families move money.
So I built the system these schools couldn't buy off the shelf. It holds every student's fee schedule across the Ethiopian academic calendar registration, tuition per term, transport, uniform, exam fees and accepts payment through telebirr, CBE Birr, Amole, direct bank transfer, and cash at the window. Incoming transactions are matched to the right student automatically, and the moment a payment clears the parent gets an SMS receipt in Amharic with the balance remaining. Cashiers, registrars, and directors each see the slice they need, from a single receipt up to a live collection total for the whole school. Because connectivity and electricity aren't guaranteed, cash and offline entry are treated as first-class, not an afterthought, and the books still reconcile at the end of the day.
Integrated telebirr and CBE Birr directly, and built reconciliation around bank transfer references, so payments land against the student record instead of an anonymous statement line.
Modeled the system around the Ethiopian term structure and fee types registration, tuition, transport, exams rather than forcing a foreign semester-and-invoice shape onto it.

Automated the daily reconciliation between what the cashiers recorded, what telebirr and the bank reported, and what the ledger says, so a mismatch is caught the same day, not at term's end.
Split access by role cashiers take payments, registrars manage enrolment and balances, directors see reporting so sensitive totals aren't open to everyone at the window.
Kept cash and manual entry fully supported, with offline capture that syncs when the connection returns, because a school can't stop collecting fees when the network is down.
